EDD 511 Adult Learning:
Theories, Principles, And Applications
| Reflections: The single most important concept I
learned in this class was at the Ocotillo retreat in Tucson, Arizona. In the
film, “The Grapes of Wrath” the new technology, the tractor changed the
physical landscape of Oklahoma. This new technology permitted farmers to
plow up vast sections of topsoil that wasn’t possible before the tractors
invention. This resulted in a large mass migration from poor “Okies” from
the mid-west to California. Technology destroyed the small family farm in
Oklahoma. This took with it a culture that is gone forever. This reminds us
all the fragility of our cultures, and that technology can erase a way of
life. Are we moving too rapidly forward without too little thought on the
furrows we are digging with technology today?
